Many young kids and grown-ups alike are fascinated with dinosaurs. Learning about these ancient, oversized reptiles can help kids strengthen their information processing skills and increase their knowledge about the animal kingdom.

Researchers believe that the age range for developing these kinds of interests and imaginative play starts around ages 3 to 5.

Even though dinosaurs went extinct more than 65 million years ago, dinosaur toys are still popular nowadays. Manufacturers keep coming up with creative ways to make them more appealing, too.

Remote-controlled dinosaur toys can be a lot of fun because they are interactive. Shop for remote-controlled dinosaurs that can walk and make noises. Kids love the ones that have light-up eyes or LED lights in other parts of the dinosaur’s body.

If you don’t like the idea of dinosaurs because they can be associated with violence, look for dinosaur books and toys that focus more on fun or science than scariness and chomping. You can find plush toys, park-themed dinosaur toys and plenty of other options.

For most children, a love of dinosaurs is a passing phase, so you shouldn’t need to spend a fortune on super-expensive toys.

DWYM Fun Fact

The Jurassic Park franchise of films has been a boon to the dinosaur toy industry. After these films were released, the demand for dinosaur toys skyrocketed.

Some of the action figures associated with the franchise have become collector’s items and are worth quite a lot of money. The Prime 1 Studio Indoraptor had a limited release of 300 units in 2018, and it is worth about $800. The InfraRed Remote Control Spinosaurus was released in 2001 and is estimated to be worth $900.

An older dinosaur figure, the 1994 Carnotaurus Demon, was not a character from the films, but it is thought to be able to fetch $1,000.

The Dinosaur Toy Tips and Advice

  • Make the play experience more educational by picking up a few dinosaur books and getting down on the floor to play with your kids.
  • Parental and caregiver supervision is important when kids play with remote control or chomping dinosaurs. Some children may use these to frighten other small children or pets.
  • Check the recommended age group for the dinosaur toy before purchasing. Some may have small parts or other possible hazards for younger kids.
