She took me shopping at her Walmart and showed me all her money-saving ways. And, ever since, she constantly updates me on new ones she discovers. So, here they are. Get a pen, you’ll want to take notes.
1. Use Walmart’s “Savings Catcher”
Let’s say you buy something at Walmart, but then get curious if you could have gotten a better deal someplace else.
Well, once you download the Walmart app, you can then use their “Savings Catcher” to scan the barcode on your receipt and they’ll see if a local competitor has the item for a lower price.
If so, you’ll get an eGift Card for the difference. Sound too good to be true? If you have a Walmart receipt handy, you can go to Walmart’s Savings Catcher website right now, put in your receipt number, and see the above in action.
2. Buy The Day-Old Bread
When I was a kid, I ate so much day-old (or several-days-old) bread, I can still taste it. And you know what? It wasn’t bad.
Walmart, too, discounts their bread and bakery products, so take a look. I bet you’ll barely notice the difference between a day-old muffin and a same-day one.
3. Make Sure You Price Match
You may hear of certain stores having the lowest price on “x” item and, if you find the item cheaper somewhere else, they’ll match it.
Well, Walmart has this and it’s called a “Price Match” system. They’ll match the price of their competitors’ (or Walmart.com’s) items.
“If a local competitor or select online competitor is offering an identical, in-stock item for less, tell us and we’ll match it,” states their website.
4. Shop Online
The great thing about Walmart is the low prices and how they seem to have everything. The bad part is how crowded the stores can get. What’s a shopper to do? Shop online.
Another perk of shopping online is that Walmart.com sometimes has cheaper prices than in-store items (which you can point out to them—see #3), and don’t forget to check out Walmart’s online clearances, too!
5. Use Coupons, And Get Money Back
I wasn’t even going to put “use coupons” in this list, since it’s probably a no-brainer to use them (and you can find even more coupons on Walmart’s website).
But then I read about using coupons at Walmart and thought I should share. So, if you use a $2.00 coupon to buy something that costs $1.00, Walmart will refund you the difference. Or, they can apply the difference to other items you’re buying. In any case, a win-win.
6. Cheap Prescriptions
My I-LOVE-Walmart friend’s favorite thing about the store is their prescription program. They offer many generic prescription drugs for just $4.00 per month.
You can see the complete list of drugs on their site. If your non-Walmart pharmacy is charging you more, it’s time to switch.
