Have an old car seat you need to get rid of, but are also in the market for a new one? Perhaps in a different size or style? If so, you’re in luck thanks to Target’s super popular car seat trade-in event.

To participate, all you have to do is trade in your old car seat and, in turn, Target will recycle it and give you a coupon to save some big bucks on a new one. It’s that simple!

From April 22 to May 5, just bring your unwanted car seat to your local Target and put it in the drop-off box near guest services.

You will then get a 20 percent off coupon per seat (yes, that means you can get more than one coupon!) that is good through May 19 for a new car seat, booster seat, car seat base, travel system or stroller — including their website’s best seller, the Baby Trend Secure Snap Gear 35 Infant Car Seat.

The program is all in honor of Earth Month.

To recycle the old car seats, Target gives them to Waste Management, who recycles the parts to create new things like grocery carts, plastic buckets and construction materials.

Since the store introduced the program in April 2016, more than 176,000 car seats have been recycled through Target.

That’s 2.6 million pounds of material diverted from landfills!

The store says car seats are not eligible for most curb-side recycling programs and that used seats should not be sold or given away, as they expire every six years — not to mention that regulations are always changing.
