Sears Is Closing 50 Auto Centers, 92 Kmart Pharmacies

Sears is closing 50 Sears auto centers and 92 Kmart pharmacies, the company recently announced.

The news comes after Sears announced earlier this year that it would close 150 Kmart and Sears stores. The company is also eliminating some senior management roles at Kmart and Sears stores.

This is bad news for those employees who will soon be out of work, unfortunately.

Sears has been taking a number of steps recently to try to bounce back. Sears sold its popular Craftsman brand for $900 million and laid off more than 100 corporate employees earlier this year.

Sears says the closure of 108 Kmarts and 42 Sears “has been completed.” But the company’s leader hinted that more closures could be in the pipeline.

“We will continue to take difficult yet necessary actions,” according to a statement from Sears Holdings CEO Edward Lampert. “As we sharpen our focus on profitable areas of our business, we will also continue to closely evaluate the longer-term viability of stores where a clear path to return to profitability is not in sight.”

A company spokesman told The Chicago Tribune that there’s no timeline for the auto center and pharmacy closures. The spokesman also said he didn’t have a list of which locations would be closing. As we all know, it’s been a tough couple of months for popular retailers, including these 17 companies that are closing stores in 2017.
