McDonald’s Invents A Fry Fork, Internet Shrugs And Wants Its Hi-C Orange Back

Burger lovers are all too familiar with “topping dropping.” (You know, when you take a bite out of a juicy burger and ingredients like guacamole or barbecue sauce ooze out, falling onto your plate.)

Is it a huge problem? Eh, not really. In fact, we’ve never given it much thought until now. But McDonald’s has engineered a solution, so there you go.

Enter the Frork. Defined, it’s a fry-fork hybrid that will scoop up the ingredients that betrayed your burger, plunging to your plate. The invention of the Frork is timed with McDonald’s release of new “Signature Crafted Recipes sandwiches,” which include Pico Guacamole, Sweet BBQ Bacon and Maple Bacon Dijon.

The response on Facebook to Micky D’s announcement? Well it’s kind of irreverent, with people mostly spouting off about the fast food chain’s decision to nix Hi-C Orange. They’re using a lot of punctuation and caps lock to drive home their point.

“More importantly WHY are you getting rid of HiC Orange Drink????? I’ve been drinking that stuff for 40 years and I don’t drink pop…not happy!” one commenter says.

At any rate, McDonald’s isn’t pretending that its Frork is a genius invention. They’re very self-aware of how ridiculous it is, and the company made an infomercial-style video to mock the idea.

Anthony Sullivan, a known television pitchman, is featured giving a soft sell of the edible fork: “Will the Frork change your life? Probably not. Will the Frork improve your Signature Crafted Recipes eating experience? I mean, sure… maybe!”’

But you know what is life-changing? McDonald’s decision to get rid of Hi-C Orange, apparently.

“PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, DO NOT take Hi-C Orange off the drink list!! It’s the only thing I can drink, besides water,” another commenter says on the Facebook video share.

Right, but the Frork.

It’s a silicone, fork-shaped utensil with an opening at the the top where burger eaters can insert “three to four” famous fries. The edible invention can then swoop up your topping droppings and re-route them to your mouth. Gluttonous? Yeah. But also kind of genius.

From May 4 to May 8, you can get a free medium order of fries and soft drink at participating McDonald’s restaurants when you buy a Signature Crafted Recipes sandwich.

Here’s where it gets even more gimmicky: On May 5, Frorks will be given away at select McDonald’s locations across the country. You can call 1-844-MCD-FRORK (1-844-623-3767) or visit McDonalds.com to find the nearest participating McDonald’s. You can also get coupons for the sandwiches by calling the toll-free number.

Yeah, yeah. But what about the Hi-C hotline?

I mean, we hate to stir the pot, but it looks like a protest is bubbling.

One Facebook fan already has a slogan: “no Hi-C = no Me.”
