This map shows the largest bank in every state

There are certain landmarks you imagine when you think of certain states—Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, the Golden Gate Bridge in California, the Empire State Building in New York.

But here’s an unconventional way to think about our country: Look at the largest banks in each state. The folks over at GOBankingRates have done just that and created this colorful map that shows which bank is the largest in your state.

GOBankingRates

To figure out the bank that is the biggest in each state, GOBankingRates used the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s directory to see which bank has the most assets in each state. In a handful of states, the site listed the second-largest banks because the largest bank wasn’t actually a bank at all, it was an investment and wealth management company.
