Who doesn’t love a good Taco Bell run? Even better when it’s free!
Taco Bell plans to kick off the summer of 2017 with its version of a food fiesta. Starting June 1, the restaurant chain is launching its “Steal a Game, Steal a Taco” promotion, which could mean free tacos for you.
Taco Bell Meets NBA
The taco promotion ties in with the NBA Finals. Even if you’re not a basketball fan, Taco Bell wants everyone to enjoy the championship series. As the Steal a Game, Steal a Taco tagline boldly proclaims:
“In the NBA Finals, everything’s on the line. Even free tacos.”
So how do you score a free taco? If the road team wins a game during the NBA Finals, everyone in America wins a free Doritos Locos taco.
If this promotion feels familiar, don’t worry. Last year, Taco Bell offered the same deal during the 2016 NBA Finals. To add to the sense of deja vu, the 2017 NBA Finals is a repeat of last year’s championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors.
Follow The Rules
For everyone to get free tacos, here’s what needs to happen.
The road team needs to “steal” (aka win) a game while playing at the other team’s home arena. If one of the two teams steals a game, then Taco Bell will make an official announcement on its website.
Looking at the NBA Finals schedule, this means that Cleveland needs to steal games one, two, five or seven. Or, Golden State needs to steal games three, four or six.
Here’s the schedule, courtesy of the NBA.
Game 1 – Thu. June 1: Cleveland at Golden State, 9 p.m.
Game 2 – Sun. June 4: Cleveland at Golden State, 8 p.m.
Game 3 – Wed. June 7: Golden State at Cleveland, 9 p.m.
Game 4 – Fri. June 9: Golden State at Cleveland, 9 p.m.
Game 5 * Mon. June 12: Cleveland at Golden State, 9 p.m.
Game 6 * Thu. June 15: Golden State at Cleveland, 9 p.m.
Game 7 * Sun. June 18: Cleveland at Golden State, 8 p.m.
According to Taco Bell’s contest webpage, fans can get their free taco on June 13 if any of games one through three get stolen. Or, if games four through seven get stolen, then customers can pick up their taco on June 20.
Customers can only redeem their free taco between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. local time on the appropriate day. Taco Bell will not honor the deal at any other time. So make sure to be there at the right time!
Also, Taco Bell will not substitute any other item for the free Doritos Loco taco.
One other note: each person can only win one taco during the promotion. In other words, even if a team steals multiple games, you only get one taco.
