Dream job alert: Get paid to put together puzzles

Update 11/16/17: Bummer! It looks like this job has been filled.

When I was a kid, my grandfather was always working on a massive 3D puzzle. I didn’t really understand what was so exciting about building a replica of the Eiffel Tower or the White House, but a lot of people find doing puzzles fun, and there’s evidence that puzzles are a great workout for your brain. If those benefits aren’t enough for you, this one might: you can now get paid to do puzzles.

Yep, the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York is hiring a full-time “Puzzle Cataloger” for six months.

The museum has a collection of 7,500 puzzles that date back to the 1700s. If that sounds like way too much for even the biggest puzzle enthusiast to finish just half a year, the candidate who snags the job will only need to put enough pieces of each puzzle to determine what the image might me, which country it may come from and what the historical time period it may have been from.

So if an unfinished project doesn’t drives you crazy, this might be the job for you.

You don’t necessarily need to be a whiz at puzzles, the museum is looking for someone with a bachelor’s degree in museum studies, history, humanities or a related field, experience with scanning equipment and experience with museum collections databases such as Argus or PastPerfect.

“It’s somebody who’s curious and ready to learn,” Christopher Bensch, the vice president for Collection at the museum, tells Time.“This is a chance to be immersed in a collection unlike any other.”

Don’t expect to get rich from the job, as Bensch says the salary starts at “more than minimum wage, but not enough to afford that new car you’ve been dreaming about.” The job does include benefits, however, including paid time off and medical coverage after 90 days with the company. There may also be more opportunities to work within the museum when the six months are over.
